A New York University dance instructor, Jill Jacobs, has brought suit against the NYU Langone Medical Center after she claimed she was bullied into having a hysterectomy she did not want or need. Specifically, she was scheduled to have surgery to remove a fibroid from her uterus by Dr. Bhavana Pothuri, but this turned into a hysterectomy.

The victim states that this unwanted procedure caused her to suffer from pre-mature menopause at only 48 years-old. The hysterectomy has also allegedly caused her to experience severe urinary and abdominal problems. In addition, she reportedly fell into a deep depression, and was even experiencing vivid memories of a rape that had happened to her years ago when she was just 20 years old.

The judge hearing the case found the hospital to be guilty of malpractice. The jury was then called upon to decide how much Ms. Jacobs deserved to be compensated. The six-member jury awarded the ex-ballerina $132,000 in damages for her pain and suffering as well as an additional $10,000 for five years of future suffering.
